What does the check engine light mean and what should I do about it?
Sometimes this issue is as simple as a loose fuel cap. Other times it may be due to the vehicle computer seeing a Lean Condition (Too much air in the air to fuel ratio). If left unchecked, this can damage the catalytic converter, causing a costly repair bill.
Should I use synthetic oil?
Synthetic oil allows for better protection when oil changes are regularly allowed to go beyond the recommended 3000 miles. If the vehicle gets an oil change every 3000 miles then a good quality oil with work fine.
Is my car a good candidate for a motor?
You will need to consult a technician to have your reviewed. Generally if the body has been well maintained and the shocks/struts are in good condition, then your vehicle is probably a good candidate.
Should I tell my mechanic everything?
A common misconception is that if you tell your mechanic everything then the bill will go up. In fact, the opposite is true. If the mechanic knows the history of the car (related to the issue or not) then he will have a better understanding of the issue. This can save on tests and other diagnostics and allow for a more speedy repair.
